Class Descriptions
At Tula+, we offer a variety of classes that reflect the diversity of our community. We try to include classes that have roots in different branches of yoga. For the most part, we teach intuitively. That is, we adapt each class to the needs and energy of the people attending the class. This enables us to make most classes accessible to most people. In the class description, we note if the class might be best suited to those with more yoga experience. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Aromatherapy Vinyasa
This is a vinyasa-style class with the addition of aromatherapy—a healing practice that uses essential oils to increase health and well-being. During the class, a blend of essential oils is diffused throughout the room. The characteristics of each oil are described, and students are offered a (free) sample bottle of the scent used in the class to take with them. This class is appropriate for students with some yoga experience but may not be appropriate for those who have odor sensitivities or allergies to any essential oils.
Community Class
This class will be tailored to those who attend. The teacher will take suggestions and questions and design a class that targets what students would like to focus on for that day's class. Donations are always appreciated but not required for attendance.
Deep Stretch
In this class, you will practice with a commitment to stillness and awareness of how your body and mind feel in each moment. We usually stay seated or supine, combining a slow physical practice (asana) with intentional breathing (pranayama). Because we hold postures for longer than in a typical class, you’ll feel physical benefits from giving your body the time it needs to relax and release tight spots such as shoulders, hips, and hamstrings. You will likely experience a sense of peace and a reduction of stress as well. We may spend some time meditating and, on occasion, end class with Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep). No special skills or experience are needed to attend this practice. You only need to spend an hour paying attention to how you feel, move, and breathe.
Flow & Restore
Let your body warm up with a gentle flow and then let it slow back down again with restorative postures. End with a sweet savasana that may include reiki, sound healing, or aromatherapy. A perfect mix for mind, body, and spirit. Good for all levels of experience.
Gentle Vinyasa
This is a vinyasa-style class that is shorter in duration (60 minutes) than our other vinyasa classes and that moves at a slower pace. We will do fewer sun salutes, explore each posture in more detail through modifications and variations, and incorporate breath practices (pranayama) or meditation in each class. This is an appropriate class for students who are newer to yoga and for those who are familiar with yoga but wish to experience vinyasa at a slower pace.
Power Hour
Power Yoga is a more vigorous practice to empower body, mind, and spirit. Poses are linked together with breath as we flow from one to another. Power yoga is meant to help us explore and confront challenges with optimism and equanimity. Modifications and props will be offered, but the class best suits those with prior yoga experience.
Slow Flow
Slow Flow uses many of the same poses (asanas) that you will find in other yoga classes. However, each pose is held for longer. The slow pace allows the body to fully experience the pose and soften into it. The mind benefits from meeting the challenge of moving slowly and staying patient. This class is appropriate for all levels. The slower pace gives newer students a chance to become more familiar with postures and allows more experienced students to explore postures in more depth.
Chair Yoga
This class starts with gentle opening movements while seated in a chair or on the mat. We then move into standing asanas (postures) with the support of a chair as needed. You can practice fully in a chair, or you can practice solely on your mat--or choose something in between. Class size is kept small to allow for a lot of individual attention. This class is perfect for you if you need extra support or are just starting out in your yoga journey.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced slowly, focusing on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing. Bolsters and props help support you during this class. This class is suitable for all levels of experience.
Wellness Wednesday Vinyasa
Join us in this holistic yoga class, where we’ll focus on nurturing both physical wellness and emotional balance. Through mindful movement and stillness, we’ll explore practices that support the nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems, promoting overall health and well-being.
This class offers a gentle blend of flow and restoration to help refresh your body, calm your mind, and renew your spirit.
Go With the Flow Yoga
Get ready for a yoga experience like no other—where every session is a dynamic, collaborative journey. Together, we'll shape the class to match the energy of the day. Feeling energized? Dive into an invigorating Vinyasa flow. Craving calm? Embrace a soothing Restorative practice or a meditative Slow Flow. Maybe today calls for Ashtanga, resistance bands, wall work, or even a silent practice? The choice is ours to make, and the possibilities are endless.
Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa is a style of yoga in which poses (asanas) are linked together in a “flow.” The class flows through sequences—moving from one asana to another with breath and intentional transitions. Vinyasa classes often (but not always) include the traditional Sun Salutes as a way to warm up and to transition between series of asanas. Breath practices (pranayama) and meditation may be included in the class. Vinyasa classes vary in difficulty but this flow class may be appropriate for students who have some familiarity with yoga.
