Class Descriptions

At Tula+, we offer a variety of classes that reflect the diversity of our community. We try to include classes that have roots in different branches of yoga. For the most part, we teach intuitively. That is, we adapt each class to the needs and energy of the people attending the class. This enables us to make most classes accessible to most people. In the class description, we note if the class might be best suited to those with more yoga experience. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Aromatherapy Vinyasa

This is a vinyasa-style class with the addition of aromatherapy—a healing practice that uses essential oils to increase health and well-being. During the class, a blend of essential oils is diffused throughout the room. The characteristics of each oil are described, and students are offered a (free) sample bottle of the scent used in the class to take with them. This class is appropriate for students with some yoga experience but may not be appropriate for those who have odor sensitivities or allergies to any essential oils.

Deep Stretch & Strength

In this class, you will practice with a commitment to stillness and awareness of how your body and mind feel in each moment. We usually stay seated or in a supine position, combining a slow physical practice (asana) with intentional breathing (pranayama). Because we hold postures for longer than in a typical class, you’ll experience physical benefits from giving your body the time it needs to relax and release tight spots, such as the shoulders, hips, and hamstrings. You will likely experience a sense of peace and a reduction of stress as well. We will incorporate strength training into each class. No special skills or experience are needed to attend this practice. You only need to spend an hour paying attention to how you feel, move, and breathe.

Gentle Vinyasa

This is a vinyasa-style class that is shorter in duration (60 minutes) than our other vinyasa classes and that moves at a slower pace. We will do fewer sun salutes, explore each posture in more detail through modifications and variations, and incorporate breath practices (pranayama) or meditation in each class. This is an appropriate class for students who are newer to yoga and for those who are familiar with yoga but wish to experience vinyasa at a slower pace.

Power Flow

Power Yoga is a more vigorous practice to empower body, mind, and spirit. Poses are linked together with breath as we flow from one to another. Power yoga is meant to help us explore and confront challenges with optimism and equanimity. Modifications and props will be offered, but the class best suits those with prior yoga experience.

Slow Flow

Slow Flow uses many of the same poses (asanas) that you will find in other yoga classes. However, each pose is held for longer. The slow pace allows the body to fully experience the pose and soften into it. The mind benefits from meeting the challenge of moving slowly and staying patient.  This class is appropriate for all levels. The slower pace gives newer students a chance to become more familiar with postures and allows more experienced students to explore postures in more depth.

Yoga for Lifelong Strength

Yoga supports lifelong joint and bone health, helping prevent and manage arthritis and osteoporosis. Gentle stretching and mindful movement keep joints mobile, ease stiffness, and improve flexibility, while strength-building postures apply healthy stress to maintain bone density. This combination preserves muscular support for joints, boosts circulation to reduce inflammation, and improves balance and posture—key to preventing falls and injuries. In this class, we will progress through a series of yoga postures and breathwork exercises that will help you stay strong, mobile, and confident at any age.  We will practice with support from a chair and other props.   Sign up for a series pass and save.

Wellness Wednesday Vinyasa

Join us in this holistic yoga class, where we’ll focus on nurturing both physical wellness and emotional balance. Through mindful movement and stillness, we’ll explore practices that support the nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems, promoting overall health and well-being.

This class offers a gentle blend of flow and restoration to help refresh your body, calm your mind, and renew your spirit.

Strongasana

Strongasana is a mindful, strength-informed yoga class that incorporates light hand weights and resistance bands—not to build bulk, but to deepen body awareness. By adding a gentle load, we enhance our understanding of muscular engagement and learn how to better recruit the muscles that support and stabilize our yoga postures. This class invites you to move with intention, explore alignment under resistance, and discover new layers of strength and control within your practice.  This class is NOT yoga sculpt or a strength-training class.  You don’t need to use heavy weights or put excessive load into your practice. The yoga asanas (and some breathwork) are at the heart of this class--the weights or bands are used in service of the postures to help you find your strongest and most stable practice.

And you never need to use weights or bands--you can come for the flow only.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa is a style of yoga in which poses (asanas) are linked together in a “flow.” The class flows through sequences—moving from one asana to another with breath and intentional transitions. Vinyasa classes often (but not always) include the traditional Sun Salutes as a way to warm up and to transition between series of asanas. Breath practices (pranayama) and meditation may be included in the class. Vinyasa classes vary in difficulty but this flow class may be appropriate for students who have some familiarity with yoga.
